About

The Everyman Scholarship Prize is a $500 merit based scholarship awarded annually to a student in the incoming freshman class at Carnegie Mellon University by the Delta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Nu. Applicants are judged by their scholastic abilities, involvement in extracurricular activities, and dedication to the principles of love, honor, and truth: the founding principles of our fraternity.

Applying is simple with our online form.

Why We Do This

Sigma Nu is committed to its founding principles of Love, Honor, and Truth, and has stood in firm opposition to hazing since it's founding in 1869 at the Virginia Military Institute. The Brothers of the Delta Sigma Chapter are looking for outstanding men who want to get involved on campus, maintain a standard of academic excellence, and strive to better the community through service.

The Everyman Scholarship Prize is meant to provide every man with the opportunity to excel in his academic field. This prize should provide ample funds for a semester's worth of books.

A Fair Question

"If I apply or am selected for the Everyman Scholarship Prize am I required to join your fraternity?"

No. The Everyman Scholarship Prize is something we do to try and help out the campus community and demonstrate our dedication to supporting those who embody the personal qualities that we so strongly support. However, applying certainly gets the attention of our brothers and gives you a great place to start if you want to get to know us.

Some Tips

  1. Register yourself on our online application and take a look around. You may find that the application is a lot shorter than you think.
  2. Be honest. Remember, our founding principles are love, honor, and truth. The chosen winner will demonstrate these more than any false purely academic merit.
  3. Be creative in your essays, because original and inspired essays will help us identify the most qualified applicants.
  4. If you have questions about us at any point, feel free to contact us! The fastest way to get a response is e-mail.

We hope that you enjoy the remainder of your summer and wish you luck in the semesters ahead.
